Aviation News Item: 00101 20th Nov 2009 FAA suffers software problem, delays Source: ubmaviationnews.com A router problem within the FAA telecommunications infrastructure (FTI) disrupted a number of air traffic management services, including flight plan processing, yesterday (November 19). Air traffic controllers affected by the outage had to flight plan data manually, which created delays throughout the day. The software configuration problem occurred at a telecommunications facility in Salt Lake City at approximately 5.00am EST (10.00am UTC); it was resolved at approximately 9.00am EST (14.00 UTC). Air traffic control radar and communication with aircraft were not affected during this time and critical safety systems remained up and running, according to the administration. Randy Babbitt, FAA administrator, is to meet with representatives from Harris Corporation, the company that manages the FTI, to discuss system corrections. |
